City police have set up tight security at polling booths.  18,000 policemen and 4,000 non-police personnel were deployed for election duties.

Responding to a question, Mr. Jiwal said that two or three common injuries were incidents in which the two parties clashed.  He said the suspects were taken to the police station and detained there.

In Velachery, we arrested 16 people who were roaming around the polling booths on suspicion of possessing Rs.5, 000 from a woman in Thiruvanmiyur.  Mr. Jiwal clarified that the city police have not registered any case so far regarding the violations.  Chennai City Police Commissioner Mr. Shankar Jiwal IPS said, “We will look into them thoroughly and file cases if they are preliminary”.
