Hyderabad: The Habeeb Nagar Police, Asif Nagar Division, South West Zone, Hyderabad, have arrested three individuals involved in cheating innocent people under Cr. No: 234/2024 U/s 406, 420, 467, 468, 471 r/w 34 IPC, Sec 66 D of IT Act, and Sec 5 of Telangana Protection of Depositors of Financial Establishments Act 1999. They seized Rs. 23,00,000, a black Lenovo ThinkPad i5 laptop, a 64 GB Kingston pen drive, and three mobile phones from the accused: Mohd Naseer, Mohd Zafar Ahmed, and Mohd Ashfaq.
On 17.06.2024, at around 21:00, Abdul Bari Rehan, a 37-year-old businessman from Imam Residency, AC Guards, Shanthinagar, Aghapura, Hyderabad, lodged a complaint. He reported that he had paid Rs. 28,000 for 10 Qurbani shares (Hissas) to the KHIDMATH Foundation for the Bakrid festival. The foundation, run by Nisar Ahmed, had set up counters in twin cities to collect money for Hissas, promising delivery on the festival day. However, on the festival day, the shares were not delivered, and attempts to contact the foundation were unsuccessful. Rehan discovered that many others were similarly defrauded by the foundation.
The accused had created a fake app under the name of Khidmath Foundation in 2024, collecting large sums from the public by promising Qurbani shares. They collected money through GPay, PhonePe, and cash at three counters: Opposite Prime Function Hall Mallepally, Shama Talkies Shalibanda, and Masjid-e-Soffa Tolichowki. On the festival day, they failed to deliver the shares, having only delivered 500 out of 2,179 shares paid for by 1,049 customers.
The accused were also involved in a related case at the Film Nagar Police Station.
The arrests were made by Inspector T. Ram Babu, SI K. Shiva Kumar, SI Sandeep, WPC A. Anusha, and crime staff members D. Srikanth, Ahmedullah Shah Quadri, T. Prashanth of Habeeb Nagar Police Station, and CDR Team members Md Amir Shareef and Dinesh Kumar. The operation was supervised by D. Uday Kumar Reddy, IPS, Dy. Commissioner of Police, South West Zone, and Addl. DCP Mohd. Ashwaq, with direction from Asst. Commissioner of Police Syed Fiaz, Golconda Division, I/c Asif Nagar Division, Hyderabad City.
The Commissioner of Police, Hyderabad City, appreciated the team’s good work and announced that they would be suitably rewarded.
