Rachakonda: In an effort to provide safety and security to the businessmen and general public as well from anti-social elements within the limits of Rachakonda Police Commissionerate, C.P. Rachakonda invoked the PD Act against three of the gang members who are extorting money from businessmen within the limits of Rachakonda police commissionerate and detained them in Central Prison, Cherlapally.
On 19-08-2021, the Rachakonda police arrested four accused of masquerading as members of the Communist Party of India (Marxist-Liberation) or CPI-M and Rythu Coolie Sangam and extorting money from businessmen. The accused, three of whom had earlier worked for the CPI-ML, have knowledge of revolutionary parties/groups, organizations, and their activities.
All the offenders are known to each other and they formed as a gang. Of which, the offender Kodumuri Srinivas alias M.Janardhan Reddy alias Bhasker is king-pin for making intimidating calls to the victims. Allutla Uppalaiah alias Upender collects information of businessmen and their families information and Thatikayala Surender alias Suryam procures SIM numbers from different service providers. They used to meet in lodges where Srinivas stayed and planned as to whom they would threaten and intimidate for extortion. Srinivas and Uppalaiah were arrested by Police in the past for similar offenses in the Police Station limits of Andhra Pradesh State and Suryapet Dist of Telangana State. They were released on bail and again resorted to indulging in similar activities for making quick money in the name of party funds. Allutla Ganesh is the driver and relative to Uppalaiah.
In execution of their plan, in the recent past during the month Sep 2021, the accused went to the house of businessmen each in the limits of Telephone Colony and Margadarshi Colony under Chaitanyapuri Police Station and threatened them to pay Rs.10 Lakhs and Rs.5 Lakhs respectively.
Based on complaints from victims in Chaitanyauri Police Station, Police registered two FIRS and as part of the investigation, police examined CCTV footage and other technical evidence, identified the gang, and arrested them on 19-08-2021. Police seized four cell phones, 11 SIM Cards of different service providers, and one Swift Dzire Car which were used by them in the commission of offenses. In addition, CPI Party Visiting Cards, Hand Diary having information of local businessmen were also seized from them.
With a view to prevent them from indulging in such criminal activities and to preserve public order, Mr. Mahesh M Bhagwat IPS, Commissioner of Police, Rachakonda invoked detention orders under PD Act against three of them and lodged in Central Prison, Cherlapally on 17-09-2021.
