Kerala, Thrissur City: In anticipation of the grand celebrations of Thrissur Pooram 2025, comprehensive security arrangements have been implemented, with a deployment of more than 4,000 experienced police personnel to ensure the safety of festival-goers. The police deployment includes 35 Deputy Superintendents of Police (DYSPs), 70 Inspectors, 330 Sub-Inspectors, 3,400 Civil Police Officers, and 200 Women Police Officers. Specialized forces such as the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Thunderbolt, and Urban Commandos will also be stationed across the city for added security and rapid response.
Significant enhancements have been made this year to improve crowd safety and crime prevention:
CCTV coverage has increased from 250 to 350 cameras, ensuring better surveillance throughout the festival.
41 parking locations—up from 15 last year—have been arranged, with capacity for over 3,200 vehicles. A QR code-based locator system has been introduced to help attendees easily find these parking areas.
Nine designated parking zones have been reserved exclusively for departmental vehicles to ease traffic congestion caused by official transport.
To ensure safe participation in rituals and processions, liaison officers will be assigned to each satellite Pooram group to coordinate seamlessly with duty officers.
To address medical emergencies, Police Aid Posts will function in 8 hospitals across the city, facilitating direct coordination with healthcare facilities.
Additionally, rigorous anti-narcotics surveillance will be in place throughout the event, including the use of drug detection kits to check for substances such as MDMA. Strict monitoring of alcohol consumption will also be enforced. This well-coordinated security operation reflects the city’s commitment to ensuring a safe, orderly, and joyous Thrissur Pooram for all.
