Tirunelveli, Tamil Nadu: The Tirunelveli District Police have issued a clarification regarding a news report aired by a television channel in connection with a murder case reported under the VK Puram Police Station limits.
On December 27, 2025, information was received that Mariyappan (46), a resident of Kakkanallur village, had been found murdered. Acting immediately, VK Puram Police rushed to the spot and initiated a detailed investigation. On the directions of District Superintendent of Police Sri N. Silambarasan, IPS, special efforts were taken to swiftly ascertain the motive and apprehend those responsible.
Under the leadership of Ambasamudram Sub-Divisional Deputy Superintendent of Police Sri Ganesh Kumar and Police Inspector Sri Subramanian, the police conducted an intensive probe, leading to the arrest of the prime accused Arun Pandi (19). Additionally, three other youths involved in the incident have been taken into custody. The investigation confirmed that the murder was committed due to previous enmity.
The district police clarified that contrary to a report aired by News J Television, the incident did not involve a person being hacked to death while travelling on a two-wheeler by an unidentified gang. The police stated that broadcasting unverified and incorrect information without proper investigation can create unnecessary fear and confusion among the public.
The Tirunelveli District Police have appealed to media organizations to verify facts with official sources before broadcasting sensitive crime-related news. They cautioned that the spread of false information and disruption of public peace is a punishable offence under law, and urged responsible journalism in the interest of public order and harmony.
