Tirunelveli, Tamil Nadu: In a heartwarming gesture that reflects honesty and integrity, a 65-year-old man from Arasankulam, near Cheranmahadevi, was honoured by the Tirunelveli District Police for his exemplary conduct.
Murugan, a resident of Naduth Street, discovered an unattended handbag containing ₹48,500 in cash at the Mukudal bus stand. Without any hesitation, he took the bag with the intention of handing it over to the police. Upon investigation, the Cheranmahadevi police traced the rightful owner — Selvakumari of Alankulam, Pudupatti — and returned the lost money.
Moved by Murugan’s honesty, District Superintendent of Police N. Silambarasan, IPS, personally appreciated his noble act. In a special ceremony, the SP presented Murugan with a gold shawl, a certificate of appreciation, and a cash reward as a token of recognition for his integrity and social responsibility.
This act serves as a shining example of how citizens and police can work together to uphold values of honesty and trust in society.
