Tirunelveli, Tamil Nadu: In a proactive initiative to safeguard the public against rising cyber threats, the Tirunelveli City Police conducted an extensive cybercrime awareness programme on Monday.
The programme was organized as per the directions of City Police Commissioner Dr. N. Manivannan, IPS, and under the supervision of Deputy Commissioner of Police S. Vijayakumar (West). As part of the initiative, Assistant Inspector Ms. Swathika from the City Cyber Crime Police, along with her team, delivered an informative session to students of Town Chapter School.
During the session, students were educated on the safe use of social media platforms, the importance of protecting ATM card details and One-Time Passwords (OTP), and the risks associated with interacting with unknown individuals online. The officers also highlighted the growing threat of employment-related frauds perpetrated through social media and digital platforms.
Emphasizing the importance of prompt reporting, the police advised that victims of online financial fraud should immediately contact the Cyber Crime Toll Free Helpline at 1930 or lodge a complaint through the official portal at (https://cybercrime.gov.in)
The initiative reflects the Tirunelveli City Police’s continued commitment to creating digital awareness and ensuring the safety and security of citizens, especially students, in the rapidly evolving cyber landscape.
