Tamil Nadu, Tirunelveli:Superintendent of Police N. Silambarasan, I.P.S., has issued a public advisory urging internet user to exercise caution while using online photo-editing platforms, particularly those promising AI-generated cartoon transformations.
With the rise in popularity of AI tools that convert selfies into Ghibli-style cartoon images—currently trending on platforms like Instagram, Facebook, and X—cybercriminals have begun exploiting the trend by creating fake websites that mimic these services.
According to the police, uploading personal photos to these unverified or fraudulent sites may lead to misuse of images or potential identity theft. The public is strongly advised to use only trusted and verified platforms for such activities.
In the event of any suspicious activity or cyber-crime, residents are encouraged to report the incident immediately via the official cyber-crime portal: www.cybercrime.gov.in.
