CHENNAI: Tiruvanmiyur Police on January 31 arrested nine persons in connection with exchange of old notes amounting to Rs.70 Lakh belonging to a businessman in Chennai. The Police identified the arrested members of gang as Muhammed Nizamuddhin (29) of Thondiarpet, a B-Tech graduate, D Santhosh (30) of Thondiarpet, Babu alias Dilli Babu (24) of Oothukottai, Appu alias Uma Mahesh (25) of T Nagar, V Murugeshan (26) of Vyasarpadi, S Satheesh Kumar (36) of Royapuram, Jai alias Jayakumar (27) of Vyasarpadi, J B Vinod (32) of Royapuram and D Sakthivelu (23) of Royapuram. According to Police Harikrishnan, a realtor had approached his friend Gokul Ram who in turn approached Mohammed, who offered to exchange the notes for 40 per cent commission. Mohammed asked Harikrishnan to come to the Tiruvanmiyur beach with the cash. The gang came in a Mahindra XUV and assaulted both Harikrishnan and Gokul Ram and threatened them at knife point and had escaping with the old notes and gold, Police said.
