North and Middle Andaman: In a significant move towards enhancing road safety and improving police efficiency with community engagement, Mr. Devesh Chandra Srivastva, IPS, Director General of Police, A&N Islands inaugurated an important initiative virtually today.
The initiative named as “Traffic Warden Scheme”, which aims to strengthen safety measures around schools during peak hours. To augments the Police staff, under this scheme, two volunteer teachers from each school has been identified to act as traffic wardens. These dedicated individuals have been provided with reflective traffic jackets and tasked to assist Police in monitoring & regulating traffic during school entry and exit times. By doing so, the scheme aims to ensure the safety of students and streamline traffic flow around school premises. A total of 44 schools of N&MA District have been identified as vulnerable and 88 volunteer teachers have been trained in basic traffic regulation and given on field demonstration.
Speaking at the inauguration, the DGP emphasized the importance of community involvement in promoting road safety. “The Traffic Warden Scheme represents a collaborative effort between Police and educational institutions to safeguard our children,” said the DGP. “By empowering teachers as traffic wardens, we not only enhance safety but also foster a sense of responsibility towards discipline among our youth.”
The DGP commended and lauded the dedicated efforts of Ms. Geetanjali Khandelwal, IPS, Superintendent of Police, N&MA District.
Experience sharing by few traffic wardens was also appreciated by DGP which gave insights into the effort being put-up by district Police and volunteer teachers.
The initiative reflects the commitment of the North & Middle Andaman District Police towards enhancing public safety for efficient law enforcement.
