<![CDATA[The city police arrested two members of the gang that stole over 100 sovereigns of jewellery from the Indian Overseas Bank (IOB) branch in Virugambakkam last Sunday. Police told that apart from the security guard Sabi Lal and his son Thillu Lal, who are Nepalese nationals, six others from north India and outside the country were involved in the crime. The police examined the call records of the main suspect, identified the accomplices and zeroed in on them in Bengaluru. A senior police officer told that two members of the gang were arrested in Bengaluru. Three persons were being interrogated for clues about the whereabouts of other suspects. A senior police officer told that the main accused is yet to be arrested. The burglary was reported to the K.K. Nagar police on Monday by the bank branch manager Ms.Saroja. On opening the bank premises, the staff found a hole drilled in the iron door of the locker room. LPG cylinders and a gas cutter were found abandoned. Two chests were broken open. The bank officials did not commit themselves on the property stolen. The police told that the two customers, whose lockers were looted, gave statements on the loss of property. According to the customers, one chest contained 100 sovereigns of jewellery and the other 4.5 sovereigns. The suspects abandoned their plan to break more lockers as the cylinder ran out of gas. In the strong room, over Rs.30 lakh in cash and jewellery were kept. Seven special teams were deputed to apprehend the accused. The police think the main accused took an express train to north India and is on his way to Nepal, while most of his accomplices were hiding in Karnataka. The persons who supplied the cylinders to the accused are also being questioned by the police.]]>
