Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh police have seized manufacturing units in Azamgarh, Ballia, and Jaunpur districts and seized several illegal weapons by arresting arms smugglers.

In the run-up to the Assembly elections in the state, heavy drives are being conducted in most districts of eastern Uttar Pradesh.  Police sources said that an illegal arms factory was found in the forest on the banks of the Hathiya river in Azamgarh under the Sidhari police circle.

Superintendent of Police Mr.  Anurag Arya IPS commented on the incident.  He said they received information from the Weapon Unit while conducting inspections near Hydel Colony.  Following this indication, the police conducted searches on the banks of the Hathiya River.  He said illegal arms manufacturers Jai Prakash Singh and Rajesh Ram were arrested.

Police seized 12 locally made revolvers, partially made revolvers, seven live cartridges, furniture, blowers, weapons accessories, spare parts, and several other parts from the factory.

At trial, the state agreed to make two guns for the upcoming assembly election and revealed that they chose because the river bank was isolated.  Police have stepped up efforts to nab them after naming people who had illegally obtained weapons at them.

Arya said both the accused have a long criminal history.  Meanwhile, in Ballia district, a joint team of the ATS Varanasi Field Unit and the Dubahar Police Station arrested five arms smugglers along with five domestic pistols, ten magazines, and an SUV.

Ballia SP, Mr. Raj Karan Nair, ATS, and Dubahar police cordoned off the Janeshwar Mishra Bridge and blocked an SUV after receiving accurate information on the movements of arms smugglers in the Bihar border area.

Nayyar said five pistols and ten magazines were found while inspecting the SUV.  The five arrested are Anshu Kumar, Deepak Tiwari, Abhishek Kumar Roy, Amit Singh, and Yogesh Roy.  The accused are suspected of smuggling weapons from Bihar to supply to Uttar Pradesh.

In Jaunpur, Sikra police arrested Ram Surat in Ram Sahai Patti village and four other arms dealers Ashutosh Harijan, Abhishek Singh, Shiraz Singh, and Ravi Gautam at the Tahirpur site while negotiating an arms deal.

According to Jaunpur Superintendent of Police Mr. Ajay Sahani IPS, a factory-made pistol, four domestic revolvers, and several live cartridges were seized from them.
