Dehradun, Uttarakhand: On the occasion of the 77th Republic Day, a grand ceremonial programme was organized at the Police Headquarters, Uttarakhand, Dehradun. Director General of Police, Uttarakhand, Shri Deepam Seth hoisted the National Flag and administered the oath of the Preamble of the Constitution to all officers and personnel present.
Following the ceremony, the Director General of Police presented the “Best Fire Station” trophy to Tanakpur Fire Station, Champawat district, in recognition of its exemplary performance. He also conferred the prestigious “DGP Disc Gold” and “DGP Disc Silver” awards on deserving police personnel, congratulating them for their outstanding service on the occasion of Republic Day 2026.
Addressing the gathering, Shri Deepam Seth highlighted the significance of the day, stating that the nation was proudly celebrating its 77th Republic Day, reaffirming faith in the values of justice, liberty, equality, and fraternity enshrined in the Constitution. He noted that the year also marks the Silver Jubilee of the formation of Uttarakhand state, and recalled the remarkable 25-year journey of the Uttarakhand Police in balancing effective law enforcement with the protection of human rights.
The DGP extended heartfelt congratulations to all police personnel who were awarded the President’s Distinguished and Meritorious Service Medals, the Governor’s Excellence Service Medal, and the DGP Commendation Disc, praising their exceptional contributions in diverse fields. He lauded the courage displayed during disaster relief and rescue operations, excellence in law and order and investigation, efforts in combating cybercrime and narcotics, and the achievements of police sportspersons who brought laurels to the state.
A special highlight of the ceremony was the introduction of a new tradition to honour Class IV employees, acknowledging their dedicated behind-the-scenes contribution to strengthening the department’s efficiency. The DGP described this recognition as a true tribute to their hard work and commitment.
Emphasizing the importance of nurturing future leadership, Shri Deepam Seth expressed satisfaction over the active participation of young officers in the ceremony. He noted that the role of Master of Ceremonies was entrusted to an Assistant Superintendent of Police under training, while a Deputy Superintendent of Police under training was appointed as the parade commander, stating that such opportunities would help build confidence and leadership skills.
The DGP further announced that 1,106 officers and employees across various ranks and cadres have been granted the benefit of time-bound promotions this year, and extended his best wishes to all the promoted personnel.
On the Silver Jubilee occasion, he also conveyed special greetings to former police officers and retired personnel, acknowledging their experience, sacrifice, and dedication, which laid the strong foundation of the institution. He reaffirmed his confidence that the Uttarakhand Police would continue to uphold the dignity of the Constitution and ensure the security of the state with discipline, professionalism, and a spirit of public service.
The programme was attended by Shri Abhinav Kumar, Director General (Intelligence and Security), Shri V. Murugesan, Additional Director General of Police (Crime and Law & Order), Shri A.P. Anshuman, Additional Director General of Police (Administration), along with all Inspectors General of Police, Deputy Inspectors General of Police, and officers and staff of the Police Headquarters.
