Uttarakhand, Dehradun, April 4, 2025 – Ahead of the Chardham Yatra 2025, Uttarakhand Police has initiated extensive preparations to ensure a smooth and secure pilgrimage. A “Chardham Yatra Control Room” has been established at the Garhwal Range Office to oversee security, traffic, and data management in real time.
IG Garhwal Appointed Nodal Officer
Inspector General (IG) Garhwal Range, Shri Rajiv Swaroop, has been designated as the Nodal Officer for Chardham Yatra 2025. He will directly supervise security arrangements, traffic flow, crowd management, and disaster preparedness. To streamline operations, a “Chardham Yatra Control Room” will function 24/7 under the supervision of SP Traffic Dehradun, Shri Lokjeet Singh, with a dedicated team of officers.
At the police headquarters level, a “Chardham Cell” led by DIG Crime and Law & Order, Shri Dhirendra Gunjyal, will coordinate information related to the pilgrimage.
Enhanced Security and Route Management
For the first time, the yatra routes have been divided into 15 super zones, 41 zones, and 137 sectors, with police personnel assigned to each sector. Additionally, nine Additional SPs have been appointed as route in-charges, and every Dham will have a designated Deputy SP to oversee security.
A substantial police force, including 24 DSPs, 66 Inspectors, 366 Sub-Inspectors, 615 Head Constables, 1,222 Constables, 208 Women Constables, 926 Home Guards, 1,049 PRD personnel, nine PAC companies, and 26 SDRF sub-teams, will be deployed along the pilgrimage routes.
Traffic & Parking Arrangements
To prevent congestion, a comprehensive traffic plan has been devised, including on-site inspections by IG Traffic. Additional parking and halting areas are being set up along the Yamunotri route. Passenger and vehicle management at key transit points, including Rishikesh and Vikasnagar, will be supervised by SP-level officers.
Special Training & Welfare Measures
In addition to increased deployment, security personnel will receive specialized training in pilgrimage management. A “Welfare Officer” will be appointed to oversee accommodations, food, and other essential services for deployed personnel.
Authorities have also reviewed past challenges and conveyed necessary recommendations to district officials and government departments to improve overall management.
With these extensive measures in place, Uttarakhand Police aims to ensure a safe, smooth, and well-coordinated Chardham Yatra 2025.
