CHENNAI: The bail application moved by Vikash Anand, who was arrested for drunken driving and killing a 29-year-old autorickshaw driver and injuring eight others here was adjourned by the Principal Sessions Court. He was only a passenger in the Porsche car driven by his friend, according to Vikash. He further claimed that the accident occurred when the driver swerved the car to avoid hitting a boulder placed in the middle of the road without any signs. After the accident Vikash, and his friend T. Charankumar were arrested under Sections 304 (ii) (culpable homicide not amounting to murder), 308 (attempt to commit culpable homicide), 109 (abetment), and 114 (abettor present when offence is committed) of IPC. Vikash Anand claimed that it was strange that the police registered a case against him, when he was just a passenger who suffered internal injuries, and with the prison having no facilities to treat him, the petitioner wanted the court to enlarge him on bail. When the plea came up for hearing before the Principal Sessions Court, Judge Mr. G. Jayachandran, the City Public Prosecutor Mr. M.L. Jegan opposed the bail petition and sought adjournment to September 29, since accident took place only two days ago. The judge posted the application on September 26 for further hearing as the senior counsel, Mr. B. Kumar, appearing for the petitioner sought to adjourn the matter to some other date.
