Haveri: In Haveri district of Karnataka, a 50-year-old woman was reportedly pulled from her home, assaulted, and fastened to an electric pole by the relatives of a woman her son had eloped with. The Superintendent of Police for Haveri, Mr. Anshukumar, disclosed that the incident occurred in Aremallapur village in Ranebennur taluk on Wednesday evening, with the victim now hospitalized in Ranebennur in stable condition.
The Ranebennur Rural Police Station has registered an FIR, indicating that the assault was perpetrated by family members of the woman her son had eloped with. Inspector Praveen Kumar of the Ranebennur Rural station stated that an FIR has been filed against 16 individuals involved in the case. Following the assault, the accused fled the scene after tying the victim to the electric pole. Legal actions have been taken, with charges laid against the perpetrators under various sections of the Indian Penal Code. This incident echoes a similar one that transpired in Belagavi district, where a 42-year-old woman suffered a comparable ordeal after her son eloped with another woman, prompting outcry and legal intervention.
