<![CDATA[On 1 August three men were arrested for allegedly trying to kill a Padgha resident using a crude bomb. Police said that the main accused wanted to get back at his rival in love, but ended up injuring his target’s mother instead. On June 29, Rekha Gharat (45) was injured in a low-intensity explosion at her house, which occurred after she opened a plastic bottle. Investigations revealed that the bottle was brought home by her son Abhijit. On June 26, he had visited his brother Jeevan at his courier agency in Padgha, Abhijit told police. When he came out of the office, he saw a plastic bag hanging from the handle of his motorbike, with a note saying that the bag contained ‘a special gift’ for him. As he smelt a foul odour from the bottle in the bag, he decided not to open it till he had consulted someone, and kept the bottle in the house. Thane Rural SP Mahesh Patil said, “We learned that Abhijit’s friend Prasad Shelar was in a relationship with a girl from his locality, and that the girl was also close to another youth, Pramod Dalvi. A few days before Abhijit found the plastic bag, he and Shelar had threatened Dalvi to kill him if he did not stay away from the girl”. The police then picked up Dalvi for inquiries and on Sunday night, he confessed to have planned the attack. SP Mahesh Patil added, “Pramod’s brother Siddhesh has designed electric circuit boards for exhibitions. He put together a crude bomb, using explosives from fire crackers, with a detonator designed to go off as soon as the bottle was opened,” Mr. Patil said. Police arrested the Dalvi brothers and their friend Roshan Shelar, who helped them make the bomb, and charged them with attempt to murder under the IPC. ]]>
