The Dharmastala police arrested 41-year-old Illiyas for allegedly assaulting 16-year-old Manzar at his school in Kakkinje village on Tuesday. According to the police, Illiyas was angry with Manzar as he had told Illiyas’ daughter about him consuming alcohol. Illiyas reportedly entered the classroom on Tuesday morning and trashed Manzar. Manzar was a Class 10 student of Karunya School. Following the complaint filed by Manzar, the police arrested the accused and produced him before the local magistrate on Tuesday. The magistrate remanded Illiyas to judicial custody. He has been charged under Sections 323 (voluntary causing hurt), 447 (criminal trespass) and 504 (insult intended to provoke breach of peace) of the Indian Penal Code and under Section 75 (Cruelty to child) of the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2006.
