Hyderabad: The Hyderabad City Security Council (HCSC) in association with Hyderabad City Police had done the East Zone orientation about HCSC, and launched the WeCop program. HCSC is a unique initiative to promote awareness on personal safety and security, awareness on traffic rules and regulations, work towards women’s safety and empowerment, to reduce crime, and work towards enhancing safety and security in the city. The concept of HCSC in similar lines of SCSC, the necessity for a social welfare organization was explained to the public. A brief overview of HCSC and its objectives, goals, and planned activities was presented to the public of the east zone, membership benefits were also explained to the audience.
The program WeCop is a part of the traffic forum intended to promote traffic awareness among citizens. The objective of the program is to create traffic awareness among children and ask them to act as small cops (traffic police) and make their family members follow traffic rules. “Today’s children are tomorrow’s Youth and they are the future of the city and the country”. A program with an idea to inculcate the habit of following traffic rules from childhood was successfully launched by Hyderabad City Police Commissioner Mr. Anjani Kumar IPS.
The program “WeCop” included various activities from in binding traffic rules and this program will be conducted for children of class 4th to 7th standard, as it is rightly said, it all starts from within; it all starts from home or school for kids. The home and school remain the temples of learning for kids. The idea is to make the children as small cops (WeCop) who would in turn ask parents and family members to follow traffic rules and act as traffic cops.
This would enable the kids to be aware of the traffic rules from their childhood and also take on the responsibility of ensuring safety for themselves and their families. Also, when grown up, they would follow the rules, care for fellow citizens, ask them to follow and turn out to be responsible citizens. Good citizens make a good society. Above all, what is modern society all about? The welfare of one and all. Sharing of responsibility between the people and the government and each one of us working towards the betterment of our society hand-in-hand. And these are the goals the project aims to meet.
WeCop program was conceptualized by Young Indian and CII as ChotaCop and now HCSC is taking ahead as WeCop to impact the lives of a large number of children who will be made aware of the importance of Road Safety and will be designated as WeCop.
This is a pilot project and would be extended to the whole of Hyderabad – zone-wise to spread awareness on traffic safety and its importance in our life.
