Kannur: The Iritti Police had received a confidential piece of information about liquor smuggling. Based on the information the vehicle inspection had been conducted on the morning of 01.06.2021 within the limits of Iritti police station. The police party came across a Pickup vehicle with registration number KA 55/8590 carrying vegetables from Karnataka. The vehicle was stopped by Sub-Inspector Mr. Rajesh Kumar and he was accompanied by JR SI Mr. Akhil and a team comprising CPOs Mr. Shaukat, Mr. Basheer, Mr. Sajeevan, Ms. Soumya, and Mr. Nitin.
The Police team inspected the vehicle and it was found that 230 liters of Karnataka Foreign Liquor (IMFL) were being smuggled in the vehicle. A large quantity of liquor was seized.
Two people have been taken into custody including driver and cleaner (Hussain, Hidayat) and a case has been registered at the Irtysh police station under the Abkari Act.
