Kolkata: In the first case registered in Gariahat Police Station, 12.12.2019 concerning the brutal murder of a 65-year-old lady by daughter-in-law, granddaughter, and daughter-in-law’s boyfriend. Body found beheaded, with several deep wounds from a sharp weapon. All three accused were arrested within 24 hours of the discovery of the body. Extensive investigation and meticulous collection of evidence lead to a strong charge sheet. The accused is now facing trial.
In the second case registered in Shakespeare Sarani Police Station, 2020 concerning the money siphoned off through ATM using ‘Team Viewer app, which a customer was persuaded to install on his phone. Said money was then deposited in two private sector banks. On the basis of CCTV footage obtained from ATMs of both banks, the police arrested Arun Shaw, who had withdrawn the money and handed it over to co-accused Gaurav Sadhwani, from whose possession the police seized Rs.6.95 crore. Charge sheet submitted in time, case pending trial.
In the Third case registered in Hare Street Police Station, 2019 concerning a skimming device used to clone details of numerous ATM cards from the ATM of a nationalized bank on Brabourne Road. Several lakh rupees were withdrawn in a fraudulent manner. CCTV footage from ATM reveals the involvement of two foreign nationals, and surveillance in the area enables us to arrest a Romanian citizen, who is staying in a guest house in Jodhpur Park. The continuous investigation leads us to two other Romanian nationals, who are arrested from New Delhi. All three are convicted and sentenced to six months of rigorous imprisonment, along with a fine of Rs.10,000 each, to be followed by deportation.
The bare bones of these three cases are completely inadequate when it comes to conveying the tireless, relentless efforts that our colleagues put into solving them. Happily, the investigating officers in the three cases – Sub-Inspectors Mr. Kausikbrata Majumdar (Homicide Sec, DD), Mr. Suman Sadhukhan, and Jitendra Prasad (Bank Fraud Sec) have been awarded the Union Home Minister’s Medal for Excellence in Investigation for 2021 for their efforts in the criminal investigation.
