CHENNAI: SEPTEMBER 1: The National Crime Records Bureau has said in its report that Tamil Nadu was the only State to record a downtrend in cyber crimes in 2015. The data for 2015 shows that there was a 20 per cent spike in the number of such cases – from 9,622 in 2014 to 11,592 last year. But in Tamil Nadu, the figures dropped from 172 to 142. While the national figures show a 41 per cent increase in number of people arrested in connection with cyber crimes, Tamil Nadu recorded only four per cent increase. Maharashtra with 2,208 cases and 1,699 arrests recorded the most. Interestingly, the NCRB report reveals that a large number of people arrested in cyber crime cases were either relatives or friends of the victims. Disgruntled employees and business rivals also form a good chunk among the arrested. 33 cyber terrorists were arrested last year by Police in Telangana and Uttar Pradesh, while only eight professional hackers arrested in Tamil Nadu. ]]>
