Kolkata: At about 4.30 pm yesterday, Sergeant Mr. Sumanta Pal of Tiljala Traffic Guard, on duty near Panchannagran, came across a lady weeping and clearly in great distress. When he approached her to find out what was wrong, she told him she had forgotten all her belongings in a taxi, which she had boarded from a government hospital near the Maidan. Critically, among the lost items were medical documents and test reports regarding a relative of hers, who is scheduled for a major surgery today. Needless to say, the surgery would not be possible without the documents.
Unfortunately, the lady could recall neither the number of the taxi nor any particulars of the driver. All she could say was that during the trip, the middle-aged driver was talking to someone on the phone about his house, mentioning that he lives in the vicinity of the Kheyada area of Sonarpur.
This was all the information that was available to Inspector Mr. Souvik Chakraborty (OC, Tiljala Traffic Guard), who immediately swung into action. His team began methodically contacting all the taxi stands in and around the area, and after a prolonged search, they were finally led to Durganagar in the Sonarpur Police Station area, where they tracked down the taxi and recovered all the lost items. Overwhelmed by the prompt action taken, the lady and her family have thanked us profusely. We wish them well.
