Trivandrum: Kerala Police have issued a Coastal Alert on the possibility of refugees arriving in our country by sea from Sri Lanka due to the economic downturn.
They identified the Vijinjam and adjoining coastal areas adjoining Tamil Nadu as places where boats carrying Sri Lankan nationals could enter our coast.
The Kerala Police officer said that the Center would soon formulate a Sri Lankan refugee policy and, in all likelihood, India would allow a limited number of refugees. Increased surveillance has been set in place by state police, Navy and Coast Guard.
