Vijayawada: Chief Minister Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy on Wednesday flagged off 163 ‘Disha’ patrol vehicles and 18 caravans at the Secretariat. The Chief Minister said that these vehicles would be used to protect women and children in emergencies.
The Chief Minister said that 900 two-wheelers have already been made available in the state and 163 four-wheelers will be made available. Nearly 3000 other vehicles will be fitted with GPS to protect women at risk. Apart from this, we have procured 18 caravans with lounge rooms and dressing rooms specifically for women police,” said CM Jagan Mohan Reddy.
A total of 30 caravans have been allotted for this, of which 18 caravans have already arrived and the remaining 12 are expected to arrive in a few days.
The CM said the state government was giving utmost priority to peace and security of women and the protection and security of women should not be compromised. About 1.16 crore women across the state have downloaded the ‘Disha ‘app. All ‘Disha’ vehicles are connected to the control room via GPS. He said staff would respond within 4-5 minutes in towns and 8-10 minutes in villages in case of emergencies.
The Chief Minister lauded the police forces, mainly DGP Mr. Rajendranath Reddy IPS, DIG Mr. Pala Raju IPS and former DGP Mr. Gautam Sawang IPS, for their efforts to reduce the response time to reach the spot and rescue the victims.
The Chief Minister assured that the AP police would have all the support from the government in improving the ‘Disha’ app and related services.
Legislative Council Chairman Moshen Raju, MLA Vundavalli Sridevi, Chief Secretary to Government Sameer Sharma, DGP Mr. Rajendranath and other officials were present on the occasion.
