<![CDATA[KOLKATA: The short, non-descript and slightly built man; who was virtually controlling the fake currency racket across north India; had kept sleuths on their toes for last three years. Asim Kumar Saha, a resident of Malda was on the run so far, finally arrested by National Investigation Agency on Monday night from a location on Jessore Road. He was earlier arrested by Chandigarh Police in 2012 in connection with a fake currency case. After being released from Patiala jail he had joined Fake Bank Notes racket once again. This time he emerged deadlier for the agencies looking for him across the country. He started spreading the racket further in Haryana and Punjab apart from north Indian states where he already had a strong network . Saha; who started his life as a farmer at Malda; started rising after he developed contacts in Bangladesh. Over the years he developed an absolute control over "Karachi print" currency note circulation in the country. Leaving the north Indian operation to two of his trusted aides- Sunesh Sharma and Rajan Chopra, he started focusing on the south Indian operation. Meanwhile he had started smuggling drugs across the states. In May last year Sunesh Rajan Chopra were arrested from Sujapur Hospital crossing, Kaliachak with fake currency worth Rs 9 lakh and about 800 grams of opium. Asim managed to escape the net but police got hold of his voter ID card. That led them to his house at Kaliachak but he had disappeared by then. Based on specific inputs NIA officials on Monday managed to arrest him from Jessore road near Airport Gate II. Attachments area.]]>
