Delhi: Delhi police have arrested three members of the Mewat gang wanted in connection with an ATM robbery case.
According to police, the gang was involved in stealing vehicles from Delhi-NCR and then using them to commit crimes in the national capital.
In a joint operation, Special Cell South Range and a team of local police in the Southeast district cracked down on a Mewat-based inter-state gang of robbers involved in ATM robberies and cash laundering in the Delhi-NCR area. The accused Imran, Salman and Shakeel were arrested. Kingpin Imran, a member of the gang, is facing at least 20 criminal charges including murder, attempted murder, robbery of ATMs, theft, and attacks in Delhi and Haryana.
According to police, between the nights of March 31 and April 1, the robbery took place at an ATM of SBI Bank worth Rs.34 lakh. While examining the CCTV footage of the surrounding areas, it was seen that a Bolero car was going near the ATM booth. The police analyzed the nature of the crime and on further investigation the police found that it was a robbery committed by Mewat based criminals. According to police, Imran and Salman were caught near Lado Sarai on MB Road by two gang members. Asked to surrender, Imran opened fire on police and tried to escape. The two members were later arrested by police and police seized a semi-automatic pistol, a single shot pistol and a Creta car bought with money stolen by the accused.
Police registered a case under appropriate sections of the law and arrested Shakeel, another gang member with the help of Imran. Shakeel was arrested on Wednesday night after a brief shooting on MB Road. Delhi police also seized a single shot pistol containing four live cartridges from him.
