Kolkata: Acting upon reliable source information, officers of the Detective Department’s Watch Section maintained a secret vigil on a guest house on Armenian Street under Burrabazar Police Station yesterday. During the vigil, two persons were detained in front of the guest house carrying two backpacks, and identified themselves as- Samiul Sekh (31) and Md Rintu Sekh (26), both residents of Malda district.
On searching the backpacks which they were carrying, in presence of witnesses, our team found a total of 35 used Android mobile phones from both the detained persons, of different makes and models. On being asked, they could not provide satisfactory answers about the phones in their possession, nor produce valid documents for them. The two were then arrested on the spot, the mobile phones seized, and a case recorded at Burrabazar Police Station. Closer interrogation has revealed that the accused are members of an organized racket involving stolen mobile phones, and they traffic the stolen phones to Bangladesh with the help of their associates in Kolkata and other parts of the state.
The seized mobile phones are being verified to locate their owners. The accused were produced in the court today.
