Madurai: The Police department took preventive measures to control miscreants who tried to defy ban on Jallikattu in places like Avaniapuram, Palamedu and Alanganallur in Madurai district known to be famous for Jallikattu. Sensing mischief Police personnel had been deployed in large numbers. On Thursday the Supreme Court had said that it cannot give verdict on Jallikattu before Pongal which is the most important festivals of Tamilians after pressure from all political parties demanding the Central government to promulgate an ordinance to allow Jallikattu. Jallikattu was held in an open ground in Karisalkulam village near Madurai on January 13. Police said, in a symbolic protest, around five bulls were let into the ground by a group of youths, but they did not make any arrests. Preventive steps have been taken to ensure maintenance of law and order and compliance of court’s ban, Police said.]]>
