CHENNAI: An intelligent idea by Chennai Police helped in rescuing 151 lost children who had come along with their families to celebrate Kaanum Pongal at different beaches here on Monday. Police issued wristbands to children and these wristbands had helped the Police to trace the lost children. The children were lost after they came to celebrate Kaanum pongal along with their families, but they were later reunited with their families. According to a senior police officer, “Until 7 pm, around 151 children were missing and reunited with their families”. Police insisted the parents who visited the beach that their children need to wear wristband that carried parents details telephone number filled in at the police booths near Labour statue, Gandhi statue and Besant Nagar beach. More than one lakh people visited the beach on Monday. Nearly 15,000 police personnel in uniform and plain clothes were deployed at different locations in the city to ensure law and order. Police said, “The rescued children were offered milk and biscuits to quieten their nerves until they were reunited with their parents”.
