Kolkata: On duty at Chowringhee Square near Victoria House on 1.9.2022, Inspector Indranath Mukherjee (Addl OC, Head Quarters Traffic Guard) and Sergeant Pranab Debnath of Tiljala Traffic Guard were informed that a pavement dweller had gone into labour and might require medical assistance. Rushing to the spot, they found that the lady had already given birth to a girl, though both would probably need treatment. Without wasting time, they called for an ambulance, informed a childcare NGO, and also dispersed the gathering of curious onlookers. Subsequently the mother was removed to hospital in a KARMA ambulance, while the newborn was taken to hospital in another ambulance by the NGO.
