Delhi: The Delhi Police on Monday arrested the ‘biggest car thief in the country’ who had stolen more than 5000 cars across the country.
According to the police, 52-year-old Anil Chauhan has been in the world of crime for 27 years and has over 180 cases registered against him, including murder, Arms Act and rhino horn smuggling in Assam. Delhi Central District Police Special Staff arrested Anil Chauhan from the northeastern state. The accused is a Class-I contractor in the Government of Assam.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central) Ms. Shweta Chauhan IPS said that due to the recent upsurge in the activities of illegal arms suppliers in Central District and Delhi, Delhi Central District has appointed a special team to check them.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central) Mrs Shweta Chauhan IPS said special personnel received a tip-off about the arrival of India’s most wanted auto lifter-cum-supplier of illegal arms – Anil Chauhan under the DBG Road police station in central Delhi and arrested the accused on August 23.
Police said the accused stole vehicles across India in the late 1990s and sold them in Jammu and Kashmir, Nepal and the northeastern states with forged documents. Assam police have arrested in many cases before.
Chauhan also has properties in Mumbai, Delhi and Assam, police said. According to Delhi Police, Anil Chauhan’s father is Ex-Lt Desraj Chauhan in the Army.
