Gandhi Nagar: The 12th edition of Asia’s largest defense exhibition is being held in Gandhi Nagar, Gujarat, today on October 18. DefExpo will continue for five days, over 1,300 exhibitors including start-ups, from Defense PSU and private industry; will display products that are aimed at boosting the central government’s initiative of bringing in self-reliance in the military sector.
Countries Defense arm, Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) is displaying a wide range of 430 products encompassing the strategic and tactical weapon systems, defense equipment and technologies at the expo. The major theme for this year’s DRDO participation is based on the 3D (DRDO, Designed and Developed) ecosphere which is highlighting its strong linkages with both industry as well as academia, said the Defense ministry.
The Defense Ministry stressed that the DRDO will showcase the advancements in technologies made by its laboratories as well as its partnerships with the industry, in recent years while representing a high level of indigenousness in advanced and futuristic Defense products and technologies that contribute towards self-reliance in Defense.

Country’s biggest Defense Public Sector Undertaking Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) has built up comprehensive skills in Design, Development, Manufacture, Maintenance and Upgrade of Fighter, Trainers, Helicopters, Transport Aircraft, Aero-Engines, Avionics, Systems and Accessories.
HAL will display its indigenous products at the 12th edition of DefExpo. HAL’s participation will focus on technological excellence and indigenization initiatives. More than 200 imported items planned to be indigenized with private industries will be displayed in this stall to attract Indian industry.
Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) has core competencies in the Defense sector in areas of Radars and Weapon Systems, Sonars, Communication, EWS, Electro-Optics and Tank Electronics. Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL) is a pioneer in the manufacture of Anti-Tank Guided Missiles (ATGM) in the country; BDL is now involved in manufacturing ATGMs of new generation Surface-to-air weapon systems, strategic weapons, launchers, underwater weapons, decoys and test equipment.
BDL will showcase products ranging from Anti-Tank Guided Missiles, Surface to Air Missiles, Airborne products, under water weapons and many more.
Mishra Dhatu Nigam Limited (MIDHANI) will showcase Bio Implants, application areas are Orthopedics, dentistry etc., Titanium Valves and filters (Application in Nuclear Submarine), Materials Supplied for PSLV and GSLV MK III, Nickel alloy and titanium alloy casting (Application in Space and naval), Forging facilities, Composite armor panels for helicopter etc.
Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited (MDL) is presently constructing Missile Destroyers, Stealth Frigates and Scorpene Submarines in order to achieve self-reliance in warship production for the Indian Navy. MDL will showcase many firsts in maritime security.
Gliders India Limited (GIL) is in the field of Parachute manufacturing and rubberized products. GIL will showcase the pilot parachute-PSU-36 series 4-3 for SU-30 Aircraft, indigenous P-7 Heavy Drop Platform from IL-76 to validate Brigade’s capability to drop heavy loads under operational conditions and GIL product is in 3D Hologram with technical details
