Mumbai: A search is currently underway for four individuals who have been accused of stealing a substantial amount of gold worth Rs.1.75 crore from their employer, a renowned jeweler in the bustling area of Zaveri Bazar in Mumbai. According to officials from the LT Marg police, the suspects are originally from Samastipur district in Bihar and were hired by the complainant, Vipul Thakkar, approximately two years ago after their father, who worked as a carpenter in Kalbadevi and was acquainted with the jeweler, recommended his eldest son to Thakkar.
The accused are identified as Purshottam Sharma, the elder son, and his two younger brothers Pankaj and Ratan, along with their relative Pawan. As per police reports, Purshottam was initially employed as a manager and was later joined by his brothers and cousin when Thakkar needed additional staff. All four accused were reportedly living together in a rented room in Mankhurd, which was hired by Thakkar for their convenience.
Thakkar, who has been running his gold purification business for the past two decades under the name of “VS GOLD,” stated in his police complaint that he would visit his shop every afternoon and had entrusted Purshottam with a set of keys to open and close the shop daily. Purshottam was responsible for managing the business and would store the profits in the locker. However, when the accused failed to turn up for work on Monday, Thakkar became suspicious and visited his shop to find that the gold worth Rs.1.75 crore had been stolen. Thakkar promptly reported the incident to the authorities, and the police have registered a case of cheating based on his complaint.
Given the seriousness of the matter, the police have launched a manhunt to apprehend the suspects, who are believed to have fled the area. It is worth noting that three of the four suspects are brothers, indicating that the theft may have been a premeditated act. The case remains under investigation, and more details are expected to emerge as the police pursue the suspects and unravel the circumstances surrounding the alleged theft.
