Ranchi: A 25-year-old man named Wajid Ansari was beaten to death by a mob in Mahuatoli village under Chanho police station in Ranchi district, Jharkhand, after he was allegedly caught entering a house for theft. According to the police, the incident occurred on Saturday and three people were arrested in connection with the case. The accused have been identified as Raju Oraon, Jeewan Oraon, and Nandu.
As per reports, the villagers caught Ansari and another person with him while they were attempting to steal from a house. The house owner noticed them and raised an alarm, after which the villagers gathered and caught Ansari, while the other person managed to escape. The villagers then tied Ansari to a pole and beat him mercilessly, leading to his death.
Upon receiving information about the incident, the police rushed to the spot and took Ansari to a local hospital, where he was later transferred to RIMS (Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences), Ranchi, for better treatment. However, he ultimately succumbed to his injuries.
After the victim’s family filed a complaint, a case was registered against the accused under charges of murder. The accused also filed a complaint stating that Ansari and his accomplice had entered the house with the intention of theft. Accordingly, a separate case was registered for theft.
In response to the incident, Naushad Alam, the Superintendent of Police for Ranchi (rural), said that the police have formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to investigate all angles of the case. He also stated that the three accused have been arrested under murder charges.
The brutal incident has once again highlighted the issue of mob violence in India. The authorities need to take strict action to prevent such incidents and ensure that the perpetrators of such crimes are brought to justice.
