MEERUT: Police in Uttar Pradesh after directions from the new Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Tuesday raided several restaurants and cafes in the city to check ‘illegal’ activities. Police said, FIR was filed against three men and one person was arrested from a hotel under various charges. Police confiscated samples of hookah from cafes to check if it contained tobacco, which cannot be sold without a valid license. Hotels close to Meerut bus terminal were also searched to check ‘immoral activities’ and to check if visitors were allowed entry with a valid ID card. Police filed an FIR subsequently against three men from a café and one person was arrested from a hotel under various charges. “We received a tip-off that a newly-opened Central Perk in Sadar area of the city was selling hookahs with tobacco in it and our forensic teams seized the samples along with other items from the spot, Station officer Pankaj Pant said. Mr Pankaj Pant said, an FIR was filed against the three owners of the café Shivam, Divyansh Gupta and Karan Bhateja under Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act-2003 (or COTP) after wrappers in which flavoured hookahs were kept had ‘tobacco’ mentioned in it.” ]]>
