COIMBATORE: The Crime Branch Central Investigation Department (CBCID) probing the murder case of Sasikumar arrested Abu Thahir after investigation, he was a pavement hawker, was also an active member of the Popular Front of India. Police said, on September 22, Sasi Kumar was hacked to death at Thudiyalur. Abu Thahir was among a few others under their radar and that the Police had already quizzed him several times in connection with the case, Intelligence sources said. CB-CID personnel picked Abu Thahir for questioning on Monday evening and after completing interrogation the sleuths allowed him to go, but again close to 11.30 pm the same day, CB-CID personnel again told him to come for inquiry. The family members of Abu Thahir and PFI personnel who could not trace his whereabouts picketed the Police Commissioner’s office here. The family members dispersed from the spot after the Police gave them an assurance that his family would be able to see him in the evening. Abu Thahir’s family members and PFI personnel moved a petition in the Coimbatore court seeking his appearance as Abu Thahir was not presented before them. Sumaiya, Abu Thahir’s wife threatened to commit suicide if any harm was caused to her husband. Jaffer Ali his father claimed that Abu Thahir had no role in any anti-social activity. Abu Thahir was involved in the murder of Sasi Kumar, Police claimed. He was booked under section 302 of the Indian Penal Code and produced before the Chief Judicial Magistrate of Coimbatore K R Madhurasekaran late in the evening. Abu Thahir was remanded at the Coimbatore Central Prison under judicial custody for 15 days on the CJM’s direction.]]>
