COIMBATORE: At a government home in which they were lodged at in Coimbatore five women escaped on Saturday night after throwing chilli powder on the faces of a warden and a cook and tying them up with sarees. Police said, “Two wardens and two cooks worked in shifts and a watchman guards the home, but was on leave for over a week. The five women taking advantage of this escaped from the home” Police said. The five women were among the nine women caught in various prostitution cases and lodged in the home on Kannusamy Kavundar Street near Ganapathy. Police are searching for the women. All railway stations and bus stands in the city were alerted by City Control Room immediately. Around 8.30 pm on Saturday, the five women assaulted warden Deepa and cook Nagavalli and threw chilli powder and tied their hands and mouths with sarees. The five women then changed their dresses, broke open the main gate and escaped from the place, according to Police. The warden and cook shouted for help after loosening the knots. Hearing their cries, workers at nearby small industrial unit informed the City Police Control Room of the matter. Immediately the Saravanampatty Police arrived at the spot and made preliminary inquiries, but then said the home’s location was not under their jurisdiction. Mr. S. Vetrivendhan, Inspector, Thudiyalur said, “We are unsure if the locality comes under our jurisdiction. For the time being a case has been registered and a formal inquiry has been launched. If it is found to be under the Saravanampatty Police Station limits, the case will be transferred to them”, he said. The government home is under CCTV surveillance. The Thudiyalur Police recovered the footage and are investigating the matter, Police said. ]]>
