Thrissur Rural: In the expeditious proceedings of the Iringalakuda fast-tracked special court, a resident of Natika has been handed down a severe sentence, encompassing 25 years of rigorous imprisonment and a hefty fine amounting to Rs.2,50,000. This judicial decision, rendered in July 2016, revolves around a disturbing case wherein the accused faced charges brought forth by the Valappad police for the heinous acts of rape and sexual assault perpetrated against a vulnerable victim, a woman who is both deaf and mute.
The prosecution’s presentation was robust, featuring a comprehensive array of evidence, including the testimony of 26 witnesses, submission of 25 documents, and introduction of 9 pieces of material evidence. The investigative efforts were spearheaded by Walapad C. Ratheesh Kumar and CR Santhosh, representing I.Mars, who diligently conducted the inquiry and subsequently filed the charge sheet. Noteworthy legal practitioners, Special Public Prosecutor Adv. Viju Vazhakala and Adv. K. N. Cinemol, actively participated in the court proceedings.
Further organizational prowess was exhibited by Senior Civil Police Officer T. R. Rajini, who efficiently coordinated the prosecution proceedings. The gravity of the victim’s condition, being both deaf and mute, necessitated the assistance of a translator during her testimony in court.
The accused, found culpable under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, was met with a consequential judgment, involving 25 years of rigorous imprisonment and the imposition of a substantial fine amounting to Rs.2,50,000. Subsequent to the legal pronouncement, the accused was remanded to the confines of Thrissur District Jail. Importantly, the court’s directive stipulated that the imposed fine should be disbursed as compensation.
This comprehensive legal outcome underscores the commitment of the judicial system to ensuring justice for the victim and delivering a stringent penalty for the reprehensible actions of the accused.
