PUDUCHERRY: Indian Coast Guard rescued 77 fishermen from Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, who were detained by Sri Lankan Navy on charges of straying into their waters while fishing. The coast guard personnel picked them from Sri Lanka at International Maritime Boundary Line and brought them in their ship Sarang to Karaikal port on Thursday. 77 fishermen rescued, 24 hail from Pudukottai, 18 from Nagapattinam, 17 from Ramanathapuram, 14 from Rameshwaram of Tamil Nadu and four from Karaikal of the Union territory of Puducherry. Coast guard personnel handed over the rescued fishermen to the Tamil Nadu and Puducherry fisheries officials in the presence of Nagapattinam collector Suresh Kumar and commanding officer, Indian Coast Guard, station Karaikal commandant N Somasundaram and others.
