Rachakonda: Acting on credible information, the Special Operations Team (SOT) Maheshwaram Zone, in coordination with Adibatla Police, apprehended a drug peddler. A case has been registered at Adibatla Police Station under the NDPS Act of 1985.
The accused persons have been identified as Romi Bharath Kalyani (also known as Romi or Romy) s/o Late Bharath Nand Lal Kalyani, age 40 years of Mumbai and Tobi resident of Kerala who is the peddler and the source.
The police seized Approximately 1.5 kg of Ganja, Approximately 50 grams of Ganja (OG Kush), and Two mobile phones and the total value of seized property is approximately Rs.51,000
Brief Facts:
The main accused, Romi Bharath Kalyani, hails from Bandra West, Mumbai, Maharashtra. He completed his 10th grade in India, continued his intermediate education in Thailand, and graduated with a B.Com from a university in the U.S. in Dubai. During his time abroad, he became addicted to drugs, which ultimately led him to drug peddling.
Upon returning to India, Romi entered the real estate business while also engaging in drug trafficking. During this time, he connected with Tobi, a drug peddler from Kerala living in Bengaluru, from whom he procured Ganja at lower prices to sell in Telangana and other areas for profit.
Romi has a criminal history; in 2004, he was arrested by Bandra Police for selling Ganja, and again in 2013 for assaulting a government servant in Khar, Mumbai. In 2023, he was apprehended by Anjuna police in North Goa for Ganja sales and subsequently jailed.
In 2024, Romi was arrested by Panjagutta Police in Hyderabad for drug sales and was granted bail on 08-08-2024. After his release, he traveled to Goa, Bangalore, and Pune under the guise of real estate dealings while maintaining contact with Tobi, a known Ganja supplier from Kerala. About a week before his arrest, Romi bought both Ganja (OG Kush) and local Ganja from Tobi and transported the contraband to Hyderabad by bus.
On 03-10-2024, at around 6:30 PM, Romi exited an auto at Bonguloor Second Ring and walked towards Tukkuguda. Acting on a tip-off, police apprehended him and seized the Ganja from his possession. Efforts are ongoing to locate Tobi, the supplier from Kerala.
The arrests were made under the direct supervision of Mr. G. Sudheer Babu, IPS, Commissioner of Police, Rachakonda, and with the guidance of Mr. K. Muralidhar, DCP, SOT, LB Nagar-Maheshwaram, along with the SOT and Adibatla police personnel.
