The police have registered over 600 cases against those who caused nuisance on road, violating the prohibitory order clamped by Ramanathapuram district administration under Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure. Inspector General of Police (South Zone) Mr.Shailesh Kumar Yadav said.“Those who were travelling atop vehicles and hanging outside have been booked. Similarly, the vehicles that were driven in a rash manner were also booked. Some of the vehicles that violated the condition of proceeding in a convoy of not more than three vehicles were also booked,” Though the police had issued guidelines, including banning hired vehicles to prevent those proceeding to the memorial of the freedom fighter from causing trouble, some of the vehicles violated the conditions, he said. “They caused nuisance to road users,” Mr. Yadav said. Over 200 cases were booked against 275 vehicles in Madurai, Virudhunagar, Ramanathapuram and Sivaganga districts. The district police units had been instructed to take action against the violators under relevant sections. “Most of the cases have been registered for violation of the Motor Vehicles Rules,” he added. The police action would be a deterrent to those using vehicles for Thevar guru puja on October 30. Mr. Yadav told police officials held talks with people belonging to rival caste groups in villages en route to Paramakudi from all districts. The police also made them give an undertaking that they would not indulge in any untoward incident when people from outside passed through their areas, and it gave results. The Police propose to hold similar meetings for Thevar guru puja too.]]>
