Telangana, Kodada: The Telangana state government’s decision to provide a bonus of ₹500 for fine grains has prompted stringent measures to prevent grains from being smuggled illegally across the Andhra Pradesh border, stated Multizone IGP Satyanarayana. During a surprise inspection at Kodad Rural Circle Station on Wednesday, he addressed the media, explaining that police officers, along with officials from other departments, are working vigilantly at check posts to curb illegal rice smuggling and support local farmers.
He noted that Kodad, in the Miryalaguda area, has numerous rice mills, necessitating focused efforts to prevent illegal transportation of PDS rice. Legal action has been taken against offenders, with significant quantities of smuggled rice already seized. He added that the PD Act had been invoked against repeat offenders Narasimha Rao and Jagadish for their involvement in illegal rice smuggling. Additionally, six individuals were arrested on Wednesday in Suryapet district for similar activities.
The IG also highlighted increased police vigilance at the Andhra Pradesh and Odisha borders to combat ganja smuggling. While significant quantities of ganja have been seized, smugglers are now resorting to transporting smaller quantities via motorcycles, prompting intensified monitoring of such activities. Measures have also been implemented to tackle illegal sand trafficking, with the IG affirming that all illegal activities and trafficking will be strictly controlled.
The IG was accompanied by Adhanapu SP Nageswara Rao, Kodad Sub-Division DSP Sridhar Reddy, Rural Circle Inspector Rajitha Reddy, Munagala CI Ramakrishna Reddy, Huzurnagar CI Charamanda Raju, Kodad Town Inspector Ramu, and other SIs and staff from sub-division stations.
