Tirunelveli, Tamil Nadu, July 12: In response to the increasing number of cyber fraud cases in the district, Tirunelveli Superintendent of Police, Shri N. Silambarasan, IPS, has issued a strong public advisory urging citizens to remain vigilant against a new form of scam circulating on Telegram, WhatsApp, and other social media platforms under the guise of online part-time job offers.
The scam, commonly referred to as “review task fraud,” involves fraudsters luring individuals with promises of high daily income for completing simple online review tasks. Initially, victims receive small payments to gain their trust. Subsequently, they are tricked into investing increasing amounts of money, with fake assurances of high returns.
The SP warned that victims are often manipulated into investing large sums—sometimes by mortgaging or selling valuable assets—only to be denied access to their funds later under various pretexts.
SP Silambarasan strongly advised the public not to fall prey to such scams and not to transfer money to strangers or invest in unverified schemes. He also emphasized the importance of reporting such incidents immediately through the cybercrime portal www.cybercrime.gov.in or by calling the toll-free helpline 1930.
Tirunelveli Police remain committed to public safety in the digital space and urge citizens to stay alert and informed to prevent financial losses and exploitation.
