In a significant success in its fight against international drug trafficking, the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) Hyderabad intercepted a female passenger at Hyderabad Airport and recovered a massive consignment of hydroponic ganja weighing 400 kilograms from her two check-in bags. The estimated street value of the seized narcotic in India is approximately ₹40 crore.
The interception took place following a precise intelligence tip-off. Upon checking her luggage, NCB officials discovered the high-grade contraband carefully concealed. Hydroponic ganja, a more potent and high-value variant of cannabis, is cultivated using advanced water-based (hydroponic) farming techniques, making it a lucrative drug in the illegal market.
Preliminary investigation has revealed that the accused had sourced the hydroponic ganja from Bangkok. To evade suspicion, she traveled to India via Dubai, attempting to avoid detection on a direct flight route. This route selection aligns with recent trends observed by law enforcement, where traffickers choose transit flights to bypass scrutiny, especially after multiple seizures of hydroponic ganja from passengers arriving directly from Bangkok at various Indian airports.
NCB Hyderabad is now actively pursuing the backward linkages in Thailand to trace the origin and suppliers of the contraband, as well as forward linkages in India to identify local handlers, distributors, and end-receivers. The objective is to dismantle the entire syndicate operating this transnational drug trafficking network.
The NCB reiterated its appeal to the public for support in the ongoing fight against narcotics. Citizens with information about drug trafficking or illegal narcotics activities are encouraged to contact the MANAS National Narcotics Helpline at the toll-free number 1933. All reports will be treated with strict confidentiality to ensure the safety and privacy of informants.
This seizure highlights the growing threat of international drug trafficking and underscores the critical role of vigilant enforcement and public cooperation in building a Drug-Free India.
