Ramanathapuram, Tamil Nadu: Acting on the directions of District Superintendent of Police G. Sandesh, IPS, the Ramanathapuram Police conducted an intensive anti-tobacco drive at the Ramanathapuram Railway Station, leading to a major seizure of 4,700 kg of tobacco products from a passenger train.
The operation, supported by the canine squad, was triggered when sniffer dog “Aara” alerted officers to suspicious consignments. Police teams swiftly searched targeted compartments and recovered the contraband, preventing the bulk movement of illegal tobacco into the district.
Police said the successful raid underscores the district’s zero-tolerance approach to the sale and transport of banned/illegal tobacco products and reflects strengthened railway checks, canine deployment, and coordinated field supervision.
The seized items have been taken into custody, and further action is being initiated as per law. The Ramanathapuram Police have urged the public to report information on illegal tobacco trade and assured continued checks to safeguard public health.
