Tirunelveli, Tamil Nadu: Swift and effective police action by the Tirunelveli Junction Police led to the conviction of a 24-year-old accused involved in threatening a witness in a pending court case.
In 2024, the accused, Manikandan, son of Subburaj and a resident of Lakshmipuram, C.N. Gramam, allegedly intercepted an electrician from the locality, demanded money, and threatened him with a sickle, warning him against testifying in an ongoing case.
Following the victim’s complaint, Tirunelveli Junction Police immediately arrested Manikandan and filed a charge sheet. After the trial, the Tirunelveli 4th Judicial Magistrate Court found the accused guilty and sentenced him to **three years of imprisonment**.
The conviction underscores the commitment of the Tirunelveli District Police in safeguarding witnesses, reinforcing public confidence in the justice system, and ensuring that attempts to intimidate or obstruct court proceedings are dealt with firmly.
