Tirunelveli, Tamil Nadu: In a proactive patrolling operation, police led by Assistant Inspector Sathya apprehended a 72-year-old man for possessing banned tobacco products intended for sale in the V.K. Puram area.
During routine patrol duty near the Ayyanarkulam exit, the police grew suspicious of Gopala Krishnan (72), a resident of V.K. Puram. Upon inspection, officials found him in possession of 4 kilograms and 500 grams of government-banned tobacco products, allegedly stored for illegal sale.
A case was registered in connection with the offence, and the accused was arrested on 14.02.2026. The seized contraband was confiscated as per due procedure.
The timely action by the police underscores their continued efforts to enforce the ban on harmful tobacco products and safeguard public health.
