Malkajgiri, Telangana: In a progressive and life-saving initiative, the Malkajgiri Police Commissionerate has introduced a unique “Helmet Bank” programme to enhance helmet compliance among two-wheeler riders.

Launched under the guidance of the Commissioner of Police, Malkajgiri, the initiative is being spearheaded by DCP Traffic Sri K. Rahul Reddy, IPS. The programme reflects a shift towards positive and reformative policing by prioritizing safety over penalties.

Under the “Helmet Bank” initiative, riders found travelling without helmets are given the option to borrow a helmet free of cost on the spot by submitting their basic details. They are required to return the borrowed helmet within 24 hours after purchasing a new one. The primary objective is to ensure immediate compliance, safeguard lives, and instill responsible riding habits rather than relying solely on punitive action.

The initiative has been rolled out at key traffic junctions across the Malkajgiri Zone, including Sangeet Chowrasta under the limits of Gopalapuram Traffic Police Station. By directly addressing non-compliance in a constructive manner, the programme aims to prevent head injuries, save lives, foster public trust, and create lasting behavioral change among motorists.

The initiative further strengthens the ongoing “Arrive Alive” road safety campaign of the Telangana Police, which emphasizes that wearing a helmet is essential for every journey, regardless of distance.

The Malkajgiri Traffic Police have appealed to all two-wheeler riders to strictly adhere to helmet rules and actively support the collective mission of ensuring safer roads for everyone.
