Belagavi, Karnataka: In a major breakthrough against organized crime, Belagavi Police have dismantled an interstate gang that targeted bus passengers, arresting 11 accused and recovering 225 grams of stolen gold ornaments.
The successful operation was announced by the Superintendent of Police, K. Ramarajan, who stated that the accused were involved in a series of thefts on various bus routes across the district.
The investigation began after Vaishali Dodmane reported the theft of 54 grams of gold ornaments while travelling on a bus from Kagawad to Shiraguppi on May 11, 2026. Based on her complaint, Kagawad Police registered a case and launched a detailed investigation.
Through sustained efforts, investigators uncovered an organized interstate network operating in two separate teams. One team comprised six members and the other five members, all of whom were successfully apprehended. Police stated that all the arrested accused are natives of Uttar Pradesh.
Further investigation revealed that the gang had also committed thefts within the jurisdictions of Athani, Chikkodi, and Kagawad Police Stations. The accused allegedly travelled on buses, mingled with passengers, identified those wearing valuable gold ornaments, and stole the jewellery without attracting attention.
During the operation, police recovered a total of 225 grams of gold ornaments, bringing significant relief to victims and solving multiple theft cases across the district.
The successful operation highlights the professionalism and coordinated efforts of the Belagavi Police in dismantling an interstate criminal network and recovering stolen property. Further investigation is underway to determine the gang’s involvement in similar offences in other districts and states.
